Blacksmithing – “Primitive Fire Making” Workshop

Matches as we know them today are less than 200 years old. However, humans have been starting fires with flint and steel for over 3,000 years.

In this class, students will forge their own flint striker and learn the process of making char cloth.

Char cloth is used to catch the spark, which will ignite the tinder. Students will then put together a primitive fire making kit that will be theirs to keep.

Afterwards, we’ll explore the surrounding area and search for natural tinder sources and learn how to start a fire with your new kit.
