Upcoming Cooking Classes
Step into the rich traditions of Appalachian culture with our hands-on cooking classes at Hagood Mill. Set against the backdrop of our historic site, these classes are designed to connect you with time-honored techniques, simple ingredients, and the joy of making food from scratch.
Led by instructor Pam Smith, each class offers a welcoming, small-group environment where participants can learn by doing. Whether you’re baking fresh bread or preserving seasonal ingredients, you’ll gain practical skills rooted in heritage and tradition—skills you can take home and use for years to come.
Our classes focus on two core experiences:
Bread Baking Classes – Learn the art of traditional bread making, including kneading, proofing, and baking techniques. From rustic herb loaves to classic Southern favorites like cornbread and potato rolls, each class guides you through the full process from dough to finished product.
Canning & Preservation Classes – Discover how to safely preserve fruits and vegetables using time-tested methods. Learn to create jams, preserves, pickles, and salsa while understanding the fundamentals of food safety, flavor balance, and seasonal preservation.
Every class is fully interactive, with each participant working hands-on with their own ingredients. You’ll enjoy samples during the session and leave with your own finished product—along with the confidence to recreate these recipes at home.
With limited class sizes, these workshops provide a personal, engaging experience for beginners and experienced cooks alike.
