Volunteer With Hagood Mill Historic Site

As a valued member of our community, we believe that your skills, passion, and dedication have the power to create positive change. We invite you to join us as a volunteer with the Hagood Mill Foundation at Hagood Mill Historic Site and become an integral part of our mission dedicated to the protection, preservation, and study of South Carolina’s Upcountry life and culture.

Volunteering is not only a wonderful way to give back to society but also an opportunity for personal growth, skill development, and the chance to connect with like-minded individuals who share your commitment to making a difference. By volunteering with us, you will play a vital role in supporting the Hagood Mill, the Hagood Creek Petroglyph Center, and various educational and recreational programs that promote and preserve Upcountry heritage.

Who Can Volunteer?

Hagood Mill welcomes individuals from all walks of life, including:

  • Community volunteers

  • Students fulfilling community service or internship requirements

  • Participants in alternative sentencing or diversion programs

  • Corporate groups engaging in volunteer programs

  • Other volunteer referral programs

For special case volunteers, a formal agreement must be in place between the organization, school, or program and Hagood Mill to outline management responsibilities and volunteer care.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Logging Hours: Volunteers are required to keep a log of their duties and submit their working hours at the end of each month.

  • Commitment & Communication: If you are unable to fulfill a specific commitment, please notify the staff as soon as possible.

  • Site Preservation: As a Nature Preserve and a National Registered Historic Site, we ask volunteers to help maintain the site’s natural beauty by:

    • Picking up litter

    • Reporting full trash cans or bathrooms in need of attention

    • Notifying staff of anything requiring special attention

  • Site Knowledge: Volunteers should familiarize themselves with basic site information, including history, hours of operation, and directions. Our FAQs page provides answers to common questions, and for deeper historical insight, we recommend the book “Hagood Mill Historic Site: A History of a Place and Its People”, available for purchase in the Mill Mercantile Shop.

Perks of Volunteering

  • Complimentary Lunch – Volunteers who work a minimum of 4 hours on Second and Third Saturdays will receive a free lunch.

  • Event Admission – Volunteers working 2-4 hours on Third Saturdays will receive free admission to the event.

  • Venue Rental Discount – Volunteers averaging 8 hours per month for at least 6 months will qualify for a 35% discount on venue rentals. To be eligible, volunteers must maintain a monthly log of their hours.

Join us in preserving and celebrating South Carolina’s rich Upcountry history. Whether you’re passionate about history, nature, education, or community service, there’s a place for you at Hagood Mill.
