Jr. Blacksmithing: Toasting/Roasting Fork

In this hands-on blacksmithing class, students will craft their own colonial-era toasting forks while learning traditional forging techniques. Skills covered include splitting, drawing out, scrolling, bending, twisting, and finishing. Participants will also explore the historical significance of the toasting fork during the colonial period.
Class Details:

Age Range: 11–17 years
Duration: 6 hours (9:00 AM–12:00 PM & 1:00 PM–4:00 PM)
Lunch Break: 12:00 PM–1:00 PM (students can explore the site; bring your own lunch as it is not provided)
Cost: $125 per student + $10 materials fee (paid to the instructor on the day of the class)
Class Size: Minimum of 4, maximum of 6 students
Registration Deadline: One week prior to the class date (unless approved by Hagood Mill staff and instructor)

What to Bring:

Safety glasses
Solid leather work gloves
Closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt

Important Notes:

An adult must remain on-site during the class and lunch break.
Students should arrive at 8:45 AM to complete a liability waiver.
