Whether you're striking hot steel for the first time or looking to expand your forging skills, Hagood Mill Historic Site offers hands-on blacksmithing classes for every experience level. Led by experienced instructors in our historic blacksmith shop, these small-group classes provide personalized instruction while preserving the time-honored craft of blacksmithing.

Our classes cover everything from the fundamentals of forging to creating functional tools, knives, tomahawks, and other traditional projects. Each class is designed to give students practical experience using a coal forge, anvil, and traditional blacksmithing techniques.

Before You Register

Please review the individual class descriptions for experience requirements, age restrictions, and project details. Some classes require completion of Blacksmithing 101 or prior forging experience.

Students should wear closed-toe shoes. Clothing requirements vary by class, so be sure to check the class description before attending. Most classes recommend bringing safety glasses, a water bottle, and lunch for full-day sessions.
