Take your blacksmithing skills to the next level with our Blacksmithing 102 class! Designed for students who have completed Blacksmithing 101 or have prior metalworking experience, this course builds upon fundamental techniques and introduces new skills essential for forging.
What You’ll Learn:
After a brief refresher on the basics, we’ll dive into advanced techniques, including:
Upsetting – Thickening steel by compressing it.
Fullering – Creating grooves and transitions with specialized tools.
Hot Punching – Making holes in hot metal using a punch.
Riveting – Joining metal pieces with a heated rivet.
Shaping – Refining metal forms for functional and artistic designs.
We’ll also explore the peen of the cross-peen hammer, learning how to use it for spreading, stretching, shaping, and texturing steel. Additional tools introduced include fullers, fullering punches, swage and rivet blocks, and a hand-cranked drill press.
Class Details:
Date & Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (7 hours of instruction with a 1-hour lunch break)
Class Size: Limited to 5 students
Age Requirement: Students under 18 must be accompanied by an observing adult (no fee for the adult)
Cost: $140 per student
What to Bring & Wear:
Closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt (required for safety)
