📅 May 30, 2026
💲 $125
Step back in time and learn one of humanity’s oldest survival skills at Hagood Mill Historic Site. In this hands-on blacksmithing and bushcraft class, you’ll discover how fire was made long before modern matches existed—and create your own tools to do it.
Students will forge their own traditional flint striker at the forge and learn the essential process of making char cloth, a key component used to catch and hold a spark. From there, you’ll assemble a complete primitive fire-making kit to take home. The experience continues outdoors as we explore the surrounding grounds, identify natural tinder sources, and practice starting a fire using your newly crafted tools.
This immersive, small-group class (limited to just 6 students) offers personalized instruction and a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and outdoor survival skills.
